Shore Heart Group Announces Scholarship Winners

Richard Adelson, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I. Medical Director of Shore Heart Group has announced the winners of the 11th annual scholarship essay contest. Competition for two $1,000 scholarships was open to all high school juniors and seniors residing in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

of Brick Township High School
Allisa Gallo will study Math and Secondary Education at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ. Her goal is to teach high school math. A member of the National Honors Society Alissa was very active in High School activities. She was president of the Character Club, involved in peer education, math tutoring, the Girl Scouts and flag twirling.

Jessica DeMaio will study English and Pre-Med at New York University. Her goal is to become a pediatrician. Also a member of the National Honors Society, Jessica worked with special needs children. Her favorite courses were English, Chemistry and Biology.

"Shore Heart Group is proud to have this opportunity to help our next generation of leaders," said Dr. Adelson. "These two young people are outstanding examples of the talent and ambition that will make the future bright." This event is part of Shore Heart Groups' ongoing campaign to minimize the impact of heart disease in our community. "Our goal is to build public awareness of the signs of heart disease and what to do about them," according to Dr. Adelson. This year's essay topic was "The importance of acting quickly when signs of heart disease are present." Articles and other support material were provided to stimulate ideas and to enhance appreciation for the critical nature of the topic. Discussion with family and friends was encouraged.
